Subtitle Editing

Import, transform, translate, and export subtitles.

Import subtitles

There are two ways to bring subtitles into the editor: click Edit on a finished download task, or use Open File from the subtitle workspace.

  • From task details: when a task contains multiple subtitle tracks, only the selected track is opened and it defaults to the Netflix guideline. Edits, conversions, and translations apply solely to the active track, and parallel downloads are not merged automatically
  • From file: import .srt, .vtt, .ass/.ssa, or .itt files. The wizard will prompt for a guideline and preprocessing steps

Guidelines

DreamCreator ships with three built-in guidelines (Netflix, BBC, and ADE) and displays the active one in the upper-right corner of the editor. Each guideline tracks three key metrics:

  • CPS (characters per second): keeps reading speed in check
  • WPM (words per minute): ideal for English and other word-based languages
  • CPL (characters per line): regulates line length for better legibility

Every subtitle line features four โ€œtraffic lightโ€ indicators covering Duration, CPS, WPM, and CPL. Hover to inspect exact values. Out-of-range metrics turn red, while compliant values stay neutral to reduce visual fatigue. Press Enter after editing a line to save changes and recalculate the indicators.

Conversion & translation

Use Add language (lower-right) to pick Chinese conversion or AI translation, then follow the flow:

  • Chinese conversion: choose the source language and Fanhuaji conversion model โ†’ click Start conversion โ†’ switch Current language (lower-right) to review the localized track
  • AI translation: choose source and target โ†’ pick Provider + Model (optional Profile) โ†’ enable glossary/Strict Mode/retry-failed as needed โ†’ click Start conversion โ†’ track progress in Subtitle translation tasks on the right โ†’ use Current language to inspect and tweak the translation

Feature details

  • Model Provider (Settings -> Model Provider): add providers with API base URL and API key, then Refresh Models and Test Connection. All providers show up in the Add language dialog on the Subtitle page
  • Profiles (right-hand inspector on Subtitle page): create/edit Profiles with temperature, top-p, and JSON mode in the Profiles panel; saved profiles appear next to Providers in Add language so you can swap presets quickly
  • Glossary & Strict Mode:
    • Manage Global glossary sets in the Glossary view; attach multiple sets in the translation dialog
    • Custom glossary inside the dialog is project-scoped and supports case-sensitive terms, DNT, or explicit translations
    • Strict Mode masks glossary terms to force exact replacements (highest adherence but slightly less fluent output); leaving it off grants the model more freedom (better flow, slightly weaker term locking). Turn it on when terms must be rigidly honored; leave off if naturalness is preferred
  • Target languages: edit the dropdown list from the right-hand Target languages panel on the Subtitle page; changes are immediately available in Add language
  • Add language / translation flow: click Add language in the lower-right corner of the Subtitle page
    • Chinese conversion: choose the source language and conversion model for regional Simplified/Traditional localization
    • AI translation: pick source and target languages, select Provider + Model, optionally apply a Profile; attach global glossary sets, toggle Strict Mode, add custom glossary terms, and use Retry failed segments only when re-running partial failures
  • View conversations & tasks: after starting a translation, the right-hand Subtitle translation tasks panel lists jobs. Click a status chip to open the LLM conversation (requests/responses, errors, tokens). When done, switch Current language to inspect or tweak the translated track

Export subtitles

Choose Export Subtitle in the upper-right corner to open the sidebar. Subtitles can be exported as SRT, VTT, ASS/SSA, ITT, or Final Cut XML. DreamCreator pre-fills frame rate and resolution based on the track, but you can adjust the parameters before saving and exporting.
